Samuel Aughey & Elizabeth Kepner

Samuel Aughey, son of Henry Ache and Mary Magdalene Felty, was born on 30 Jul 1804 in Milford, Juniata, Pennsylvania, USA. He died on 10 Jul 1899 in Milford, Juniata, Pennsylvania, USA.

Elizabeth Kepner daughter of John Jacob Kepner and Sarah Elizabeth Dupes was born on 22 Oct 1808 in Turbett, Juniata, Pennsylvania, USA. She died on 01 Mar 1900 in Milford, Juniata, Pennsylvania, USA.


 
Samuel Aughey and Elizabeth Kepner were married on 30 Jan 1827. They had the following children:

Samuel Aughey was born in Milford township, Juniata county, in 1804. He received a fair education, and was all his life a farmer, owning and cultivating a farm of 240 acres. In 1842, he erected on his property a large stone barn, and in 1847, acommodious dwelling house. He was married in Turbett township, in 1827, to Miss Elizabeth Kepner, born in that township in 1808, daughter of Jacob Kepner, and sister of Samuel and Benjamin Kepner, of Juniata county. They had twelve children: Rev. S. A. and Lizzie, twins, the former a minister of the Lutheran church and a professor of a prominent educational institution in Alabama, and the latter the wife of Henry Suloff, of Fermanagh township, Juniata county; Sarah D. (Mrs. William Brown), of Nebraska; Hannah C. (Mrs. Samuel Dearing), of Nebraska; Mary J. (Mrs. Jacob Heikes) of Wakefield, Neb; Lyman, of Milford township, Juniata county; Harriet (Mrs. John Shover), of the same township; Isabella (Mrs. Henry Arbogast) of Altoona, Pa; and Jacob, Henry, and Delilah, all deceased. Samuel Aughey was a Democrat. He held various township offices, including school director and township treasurer. He was a prominent and active member of the Lutheran church, being an elder and one of the founders of the congregation in the Licking Creek valley. He gave the land on which the brick building of St. Stephen’s Lutheran church was erected. He died in June, 1889, highly respected by all who knew him. His widow, exceedingly active for her years, still survives, at the age of eighty-nine.
