John Jacob Kepner & Sarah Elizabeth Dupes



John Jacob Kepner, son of Johannes Kepner and Maria Christiana Strauss was born on 15 Jul 1777 in Millerstown, Perry, Pennsylvania, USA (Pfoutz Valley PA). He died on 15 Apr 1845 in Turbett, Juniata, Pennsylvania, USA.

Sarah Elizabeth Dupes was born on 01 Mar 1789 in Turbett, Juniata, Pennsylvania, USA. She died on 13 Nov 1870.


... Jacob Kepner, was born near Port Royal in Juniata county, and was twice married. He first wedded a Miss Gross and after her death married Sara Eliza Dupes, who survived him for some years. He died upon his farm in Pennsylvania about 1848. By his first marriage he had three children: John; Catherine, who became the wife of David Suloff and died in Patterson, Pennsylvania; and Jacob. The children of the second marriage were Elizabeth, who married Samuel Aughey and died in Juniata county, Pennsylvania, in February, 1900. Henry, who married Catherine Rice and died at Sandy Hill, Perry county, Pennsylvania; Sarah, who married Samuel Rice and died in Port Royal, Pennsylvania, where her husband also departed this life; Christina, a resident of the Keystone state, who married Jacob Hertzler, but is now the widow of George Heikes; Benjamin, who wedded Margaret Frankhauser and died in July 1900; Polly, who became the wife of George Boyer and died in May, 1900; and Samuel, who died in July, 1900. He married Barbara Kohler and after her death wedded Carrie Dukeman, who also is now deceased.

... Jacob Kepner, was a Pennsylvanian by birth, as his father had been, with whom he came when quite yong to the Juniata valley, the family settling in Perry county, now Millerstown. In this county Jacob Kepner carried on farming and boating on the Juniata river. He was still a young man when he came to Juniata county, and purchased a farm of 100 acres in Turbett township. He subsequently made large additional purchases and became a very extensive land owner, his farms being improved by the erection of commodious buildings and in other ways.

He married Miss Gross, born in Snyder county. They had four children: David; John; Jacob; and Catharine. His wife having died in Turbett township, Mr. Kepner married Sarah Dups, a native of Perry county; two of their nine children, Susannah and Solomon, died young. The others were: Elizabeth (Mrs. Samuel Aughey), of Milford township; Christina, married first to Jacob Hertzler, afterwards to George Heikes, Henry, deceased; Sarah (Mrs. Samuel Rice), of Turbett township, deceased, Mary (Mrs. George Boyer) of the same township; Benjamin, of Milford township; and Samuel D. Jacob Kepner was a sound Democrat. He was a member of the Lutheran church, and was a deacon and elder. His death occurred in Turbett township, in 1845. His widow survived until 1870.


John Jacob Kepner and Sarah Elizabeth Dupes were married in 1807. They had the following children:

  • Elizabeth Kepner was born on 22 Oct 1808 in Turbett, Juniata, Pennsylvania, USA. She married Samuel Aughey on 30 Jan 1827. She died on 01 Mar 1900 in Milford, Juniata, Pennsylvania, USA.
  • Christina Kepner was born on 27 Oct 1815 in Turbett, Juniata, Pennsylvania, USA. She died on 16 Sep 1903. Christina Kepner married Jacob Hertzler and had the following children:
    • Henry Hertzler, born 8 Nov 1836
    • William Hertzler, born 16 June 1838
    • Samuel Hertzler, born 19 August 1840
    • Sarah Hertzler, born 13 Sep 1843
    • Abraham J. Hertzler, born 13 Sep 1845
    • Stewart Hertzler, born 4 Mar 1848
    • Daniel Hertzler, born 4 Mar 1848
    • Elizabeth Hertzler, born 6 Oct 1851

Christina later married George Heikes.
  • Mary Magdalena Kepner. She died after 1897. She married George Boyer.
  • Benjamin D. Kepner was born on 06 Aug 1820 in Turbett, Juniata, Pennsylvania, USA. He married Margaret Frankhauser. He died after 1897. Benjamin and Margaret had the following children:
    • Jeremiah Kepner
    • Theophilus Kepner
    • Delilah Kepner
    • Austin Kepner
    • Luther Kepner
    • Sarah E. Kepner
